Understanding YHWH

Exodus 34:5-8 –

The LORD descended in the cloud and stood there with him as he called upon the name of the LORD. [6] Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; [7] who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.” [8] Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship

His Name is “I AM”

I so love this poem… it reminds me that life is full of two things, anxiety and hopelessness.  And when we look to the gifts of life and forget

I was regretting the past and fearing the future.

Suddenly my Lord was speaking:
“My name is I Am.” He paused. I waited. He continued,

When you live in the past With its mistakes and regrets,
It is hard.
I am not there,
My name is not I WAS”.

When you live in the future With its problems and fears,
It is hard.
I am not there.
My name is not I WILL BE.

When you live in this moment,
It is not hard.
I am here.
My name is I AM.


The Name of Jehovah

Frequently I am asked where does the Name of God “Jehovah” come from.  It actually is a derivative of all three names for God.
