Whom Will You Serve

Scripture: Read Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Thought: God tells us in scripture to be good stewards of what he has entrusted to us. I’m not talking about just material blessings, but also about our time and talent he has blessed us with. God has blessed all of us with gifts. He wants us to be good stewards and to share the blessings he has bestowed on us. We are simply a messenger or steward to God’s calling. The messenger is to take seriously and prayerfully the calling from our master. The blessing does not belong to the steward, it belongs to the Master. What’s in the blessing is not as important as protecting, caring and sharing the blessing with others. It is not our business to know the Master’s motives, or the details to which you are giving it; but to simply deliver the message in the same condition it was given to you. Being a good steward of what God gives us does not have anything to do with being perfect with what we have to show or what it took to get. It has everything to do with the mission Father God has placed behind the gift itself.

Action: What feels right to you? Working long hours to please your-self with profit or using the blessings from God to serve others? Read Jesus parable in Luke 16:13 about the unrighteous steward. Commit to making this new year, a New Year.

Prayer: Lord, apart from you I desire nothing. Help me to re-center my love in you, not wealth, material possessions, not affirmation from others, but in your love. Reveal to me the plans you have for me. Show me what you want me to do to serve you Father for your kingdom. And give me courage to walk by faith and not by sight as I give back to you what is really yours.

Joy in Christmas

Scripture: Read Luke 2:8-15 “…Don’t be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. The Savior, yes, the Messiah, the Lord – has been born tonight in Bethlehem…”
Thought: Have you ever asked yourself, where is the joy in Christmas, when I’m running around fighting with crowds and traffic, rushing to buy gifts, wrapping, decorating, baking, and attending Christmas parties? Your level of joy at Christmas is directly related to what you seek. The shepherds and the three kings were seeking Jesus. Christmas for them was an opportunity to seek the new born king and worship the baby wrapped in a manger. This is what we need to be looking for and expecting this Christmas – an experience of adoration, a fresh glimpse at baby Jesus – the Messiah. Your level of joy in Christmas is directly related to where you look. We, are tempted to look for joy in Christmas in all of the wrong places. We think by getting or giving the right gift we will be satisfied. We imagine that being with family, we’ll be joyful. Where will you find joy this Christmas; with gifts, with family, with Jesus?
Action: What are you giving for Christmas this year? Why not consider giving yourself? Give your time to your family. Give your compassion to the hurting. Give your forgiveness to the isolated. And give your heart to Jesus? When you ASK for the right thing, SEEK the right places, and give the right gift; you will have joy in Christmas.
Prayer: Joy to the world, the Lord has come. Lord, I asked for a savior, I seek your joy this Christmas, and I KNOCK on the door to seek forgiveness. Thank you for giving me new birth and reminding me the JOY OF CHRISTMAS is YOU. Your love is the greatest Joy of all the earth and I believe in you for great things. Happy Birthday Jesus!

Hearts of Gratitude Let Us Adore Him

Scripture: “The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him– the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”Isaiah 11:2

Thought: Every year many people, including myself, hang a wreath somewhere in or around our house; I hang mine at the entrance door. When I was young the story behind the wreath was told by my father at the beginning of Advent and I have since past the story onto my children and grandchildren. The wreath represents a sign of Christianity, preparing for the coming of Christ.

It originated in the 19th century from a Lutheran Missionary who spent time at a mission school for the poor. Children at the mission would ask daily if Christmas had arrived. In 1839, the German missionary used a wreath made from a cart wheel to educate children about the meaning and purpose of Christmas, as well as to help them count the days approaching Christmas by using candles.

Today in modern history, five candles are arranged in a circle symbolizing Christ’s eternity, a circle has no beginning and has no end, and it is a symbol for God, who is eternal. They are usually made of evergreens which mean He is forever with us; and of holly that represents anticipation, newness, renewal and Christ’s everlasting. The red berries of the holly represent the shedding of Christ’s blood. Then the five candles placed on the wreath represent the candle of “HOPE”, God is promise and hope. We can have hope because God is faithful and will keep the promises He made to us. Our hope comes from God. The candle of “PREPARATION” means His light and preparation. Get ready, be prepared to welcome God, baby Jesus. The candle of “JOY” is the angels that sang a message of JOY!  The candle of “LOVE” represents Christ love for us. God sent His only Son to earth to save us, because He loves us!  The fifth white candle located in the center of the wreath is the “CHRIST CANDLE”, the heart and reason for the season; God is the light to the world.

Action: This year leave a legacy and share the history of the Christmas wreath at your Christmas celebration. Remember to give thanks; Christ is the reason for our celebration. Bring the Bible into your home this Christmas Season.

Prayer: Come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, let us adore You, Christ Our Lord. Lord Jesus, may I adore you forever with a GRATITUDE ATTITUDE heart. Give me the courage to share your love with everyone I meet. LORD, THANK YOU for your everlasting love and for giving me hope and joy this Christmas season.

Integrity or Honesty?

Scripture: “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is sincere. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual enthusiasm serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.” Romans 12:9-14
Thought: Integrity is telling the truth, honesty is transparent sincerity. The plumbing was old and needed replacement. The owner masked the water damaged walls and roof after he made a minor patch in the area of the leak. A few months later, he sold his house for an expensive price knowing full well that the new owner will incur a big expense shortly after they buy it? Another man buys land from a poor farmer at a bargain price secretly knowing that the area is about to be developed for greater profit? Getting “things” means little in life if we damage other people in the process. However, some Brutal Honesty delivered by a trusted friend or mentor can be the push a person needs to effect a positive change. God urges us to conduct our daily living with complete honesty but not at the expense of making ourselves look righteous or to gain self indulgence. If we can be trusted with the small things, like integrity and honesty think of how much more God will reveal and entrust you to deliver His sincere truth.
Action: In the end God asks you to do the right thing even if it’s hard. How about you? Can Our Lord be Brutally Honest with you about your integrity? When you have your quiet time with God today, ask him to search your heart and show you where you have told half the truth which is really a full lie. The BRUTAL HONESTY will either bring you to humility, denial or false blame. Whatever your admission, your true character will be revealed inside and out. Ask God to Change You from the inside out. If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.
Prayer:  Lord, show me where I have blamed or made excuses for my “white lie”. I confess my sins to you from the biggest hurt to the smallest lie. I ask for your forgiveness and earnestly pray that you will CHANGE ME LORD. Give me knowledge when I have sinned against you or one of my brothers or sisters. Grant me wisdom so I may apply your honest truth and open my ears that I may hear only YOU. (SD)

Our goal is to help others mature into the stature that is found in Jesus Christ.

Counseling and life coaching are based on a relationship with a professional who co-facilitates with client to establish long-range goals and the achievement of those goals through the accountability of short-term objectives.

Hearing and Following God’s Voice

Scripture: “Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord, point out the right road for me to follow.” Psalm 25:4
Thought: I had been married for only nine months when my brothers from out of state asked me to move back to Arizona to help take care of my dying father. Mom was getting too old and couldn’t keep up with the physical demands of helping my father bathe, dress and eat. I waited so long for God to answer my prayer for a Godly husband and now that I had this blessing, I knew God surely wasn’t asking me to give it up after only nine months. My parents weren’t available when I needed them most in my life; why would I want to give up my new life for them now. I shared the story with my husband, and he said, “Let’s Go!” What? Wait? “George you are aware of my judgmental family. Why would we give up our jobs, our home, and our honeymoon marriage to go help my parents?” My husband shared his story of losing his father when he was nineteen and the guilt he felt for not taking the time to visit and spend more time with him. He didn’t want me to face the same shame. For the next three days I searched God’s word and asked Him to show me what he wanted me to do. I heard Him say, IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU Sue, PUT ME FIRST, for I know the plans I have for you.” With a big decision to make, I sought God’s wisdom and listened to the leader of our marriage, First God, then my husband. Needless to say, the year wasn’t easy but the relationship between my parents and I was healed. Moving to take care of my father was the biggest blessing of my life, because of my obedience to Seek God First.
Action: When God calls you into a new endeavor you will find that God will anoint you in areas you considered your weakest traits. Whenever God does a new thing in your life, those who knew you before notice the change. This is the way of God. How does God view your life? What is the destiny He has chosen you to fulfill? Can you walk by faith and PUT GOD FIRST?
Prayer: Lord, it’s not about me and my own selfish ambitions. It’s all about you and what you have planned for my life. This is scary to me, but I trust you and I know your way is the best way. Please give me courage to walk where you call me by believing in you and your plans. (SD)
