I used to think being from the country was something that wasn’t readily admitted in public. But as life rolled I began to see the value of and then come to cherish the farming roots I was raised with. The first to awaken that was a student in my seminars. He kept introducing me as someone with a Nebraska Farm Kid Perspective. Wasn’t sure if that was good or not. Next came Charles Haddon Spurgeon who did several messages on lessons from the country. If it was good enough for Charles Spurgeon then it was good for me.
I loved living every day of my life with my grandfather or around farming people. I found that God seems so much nearer and closer when life is so intentional. Backing away from all the noise and there is so much in our world today. So many voices and so many distractions. Lost are the smells and the sights and the stillness. Much like the Psalmist wrote when he said (46.10) “Be Still and KNOW that I am God”. I love how the NASB writes it. “CEASE STRIVING”. I think that is what so much background noise does. It keeps me striving for something else rather than just standing to the side realizing I’m not the center of anything, and focusing on the One Who is. Making much about Jesus.
So my blog is about being Simple, Practical and Intentional. It’s who I am. Tired of so many formulas and running from one event to the next chasing noise. God is like that. 1 Kings 19.11 says that Elijah saw God’s Presence.
So He said, “Go forth and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord was passing by! And a great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a gentle blowing.
Wow seriously? God wasn’t in the tornado, He wasn’t in the rock crusher and He wasn’t even in the firestorm? Listen to most on radio and tv today it’s all about the book, the hook and the look. It’s all about the noise. But I think the noise just keeps us from coming aside, sitting down and listening. Really hearing Father’s Heart through His Spirit. I love Him in my life now. Hopefully I can help you find Him in your life as well.
Oh by the way, here’s a link to Spurgeon’s Sermons: Spurgeon’s Sermons from the Farm.
